Primarily the correspondence of Frances Branch Scott (1861-1937) of Richmond, Va., detailing her active participation in Richmond's social, economic, and cultural life. Scott served as president for Sheltering Arms Hospital, as a Red Cross volunteer during World War I, and was active in the Episcopal Church. Correspondents include family, friends, and suitors. Also included are papers of Scott's parents, Frederic Robert Scott (1830- 1898) and Sarah Frances (Branch) Scott (1834-1907), chiefly family correspondence; correspondence of her brother, John Walker Scott (1858- 1901), chiefly concerning his education in Switzerland and at the University of Virginia; and correspondence of her grandmother, Isabella (Doherty) Scott of Ballyshannon, Ireland, and New York, N.Y., including letters from a suitor and letters to her grandchildren.
